Samuel Tschudin (b. 1988*) lives and works in Basel, Switzerland. He is a sound artist, improviser, and field recordist whose practice moves between instrument building, sound installation, and performance. He develops hybrid mechanical and electronic instruments and music automata, often activated by sensors and environmental conditions, and uses them to shape dense polyrhythmic textures and evolving soundscapes.
Alongside these constructed systems, Tschudin works with prepared stringed instruments and field recordings, treating listening as both material research and compositional method. His recent projects foreground the relationship of space, light, and sound, sometimes using darkness itself as an aesthetic and dramaturgical element, and expand toward participatory formats where the audience’s presence becomes part of the sonic process.
